Edward’s Big Boy Room – The Plan

March 17, 2010

I know today is earmarked for a Picture Perfect Design, but I was bursting-at-the-seams excited to share with you the plan for Edward’s new digs.

The color scheme is a little traditional.  The dark is a deep chocolate that will be color of his new “built-ins” (more on that later).  The honey is the color of the exisitng woodwork in the room.  Denim blue will be brought in through bedding, the existing chair and window treatments.  The brick red that is currently painted below the chair rail is staying and some new furniture will also be wearing this shade.  The currently white walls will be painted a warm khaki.

Here are the major elements in the space:

Bedding with a stone-washed look from Ikea.

Two of these unfinished dressers painted in the same brick red as currently exists in the room will provide ample storage.

Several of these prefab bookcases will be placed atop the ledge and trimmed out in molding to mimic built-ins.  This will provide tons of space for books and toys.

This everyday office object will be used in a large grouping to bring a graphic punch to the room and allow Edward to display his art and change it out often.

The closet doors are getting a makeover, going from standard home improvement store issue to…

I am still on the hunt for fun lighting and a couple of minor accessories, but you get the idea.  Our hope is that this will be a room that grows well with Edward.  We break ground this weekend.  I promise to keep you posted as the project evolves.
