Dwell Dressed – Western Chic

February 18, 2010

My favorite rooms have a definitive style.  Even when the style isn’t my own, I can appreciate a space that is confident and distinctive.  This month’s room for Dwell Dressed is such a space. It has such a strong point of view; it was easy to imagine the woman who would call this space home.

I believe the occupant of this space would be a tiny spit-fire Texas lady in her 60s with long white hair.  I can even envision a name for her – Georgina.  Her daddy was in oil, so she has money.  Her husband is a rancher with his hand in state politics.  She entertains herself by running a high-end antique shop.  It doesn’t make much money, but it keeps her busy and fulfilled.  Here is her ensemble:

1.  A huge rock graces her finger. The gaudier, the better.

2.  This statement necklace in off-white is perfect for our lady.  It is bold, and the sparkle appeals to her flashy side.

3, 4 & 5.  While Georgina is a strong-willed southerner, I believe she gravitates to the feminine in terms of clothing.  This lightweight cardigan with chic bow will look terrific over the shimmery ruffled tank and flowing suede skirt.

6.  Boots are a must.  The shade of these give them a feminine edge and keep them in our soft, neutral palette.

7 & 8.  A belt with a sterling buckle completes the look. I can just imagine this combo nestled loose and low on Georgina’s hip, over her pale sweater.

I think you captured the wealthy Texas lady. I love the neutrals in the room! Couldn’t we put unlimited funds to good use??

    Great job!

But I think you left out one thing. Georgina would have to have a spoiled little lap dog, complete with bandanas and cowboy outfits! I was thinking perhaps something yappy and demanding like a Yorkie or maybe a breed with a bit more flash like a Papillon. I see her carrying it around in a tote under her arm wherever she goes!

Or a Maltese! That would go well with her pillows. LOL!

Perhaps the only detail missing was a small yet elegant crystal bowl that had “gig ’em” etched on one side. Surely there was not even a hint of burnt orange on the property.

If shes a texan with money she has to have big ole hair. I think its a must requirement. I imagine she has a “pool boy” even though there is no pool on the residence
